You might be enjoying a sunny, even warm, autumn day right now. But it won’t be long until it’s time for ice fishing. And one of New England’s biggest ice fishing events is already in the works for this winter.
Vermont Fish and Wildlife announced the state will host its annual Free Ice Fishing Festival on Saturday, January 30, 2027.
The event is a day when anyone—resident or non-resident—can go fishing in Vermont without a fishing license.

The day is highlighted by festival activities at Bomoseen State Park in Fair Haven, Vermont.
At the festival, anglers can learn skills such as ice fishing basics, hole drilling techniques, tips on filleting fish, knot tying, and more.
Festival events take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
